An enzyme is a protein produced by the body that is essential to cellular biochemical activity. Enzymes have been used since time immemorial in fermentation processes, such as making wine and bread. In recent years, they have begun appearing in our cosmetics like enzyme skincare, particularly fruit enzymes from pineapple, fig, papaya and the like. They provide the skin with gentle chemical face exfoliator that is often less abrasive, more homogeneous and more effective than mechanical exfoliation.
